Tri-Mer Introduces Cost-Effective
Technology to Reduce All Forms
of Mercury in Air Emissions

Tri-Mer Corporation has introduced a technology that provides up to 99.9% reduction
in mercury (Hg) vapor emissions. It is ideally suited to lower emissions from coal-fired power
plants,
municipal waste incinerators and gold mining, which are the major contributors
to
mercury pollution in the U.S.

The Tri-Mer mercury scrubber design incorporates a wet chemistry process that
provides a cost-effective means of reducing all forms of mercury in emissions.
The novel scrubber technology transforms mercury into mercuric sulfide, a stable and
manageable form of mercury that can be disposed of as a non-hazardous waste.
The exceptionally high efficiency of the Tri-Mer scrubber is the result of a
patent-pending oxidation monitoring method, which optimizes system chemistry.
Tri-Mer developed the mercury vapor scrubber in cooperation with ADA Technologies, Inc.,
Littleton, CO.
ADA, an industry leader in mercury pollution clean-up technology, developed
the chemistry
for
Tri-Mer through an EPA grant.
Research indicates that airborne mercury pollution emissions often travel long distances
before
settling out of the air hundreds of miles away. Once in the environment, the mercury
pollution is
transformed through biotic processes into highly toxic organic forms, including
methylmercury and dimethylmercury, which accumulate in the ecosystem.
Humans are impacted when they consume contaminated fish or other wildlife that feed
on the fish. Serious neurological problems have been associated with human exposure
to high levels of mercury pollution.
Tri-Mer scrubber systems are available in UV-resistant white polypropylene, FRP,
Hastelloy, or PVDF. As with other Tri-Mer systems, pilot testing is available.

Tri-Mer is dedicated to the development and commercialization of technologies
which improve the quality of life.
In addition to this important technology for reducing mercury vapor emissions,
and keeping the food chain free from mercury’s toxic effects, Tri-Mer has introduced
a biofiltration / VOC emission control system that substantially out-performs a
thermal oxidizer in effectiveness and cost-efficiency.
For applications involving submicron and fine particulate, Tri-Mer has
commercialized the CCS Cloud Chamber scrubber.
CCS is the only technology available proven effective for the control of stationary
diesel exhaust and diesel soot. The submicron particulate in diesel exhaust has
been strongly implicated in childhood cancer; submicron particulate from all source
has been credibly associated with lung disease, genetic abnormalities
and premature death.
