ALTERNATIVE TO REGENERATIVE THERMAL OXIDIZERS

Tri-Mer MultiPhase Technology Performs
Beyond Conventional Biotreatment

  • The Tri-Mer system for VOC abatement treats VOC contaminants in the liquid and
gas phases in which they naturally partition, as a result of their inherent
physical properties, in accordance with Henry’s Law.
  • Highly volatile compounds that exhibit low water solubility undergo VOC treatment
mainly in the gas phase in a ceramic biomedia bed.
  • Low volatility compounds that are water-soluble undergo VOC treatment mainly
in the water phase in the biofilters digester sump, which incorporates special
    neutrally-bouyant media.
  • Intermediate compounds are subject to VOC abatement in both phases.
  • The ductwork and central pipe contain spray nozzles. The soluble fraction of the
VOCs and water end up in the digester sump, along with indigestible particulate that
    is later filtered out.

Proprietary Synthetic Ceramic Biomedia Provides Substantial
Advantages for Tri-Mer VOC Abatement Technology

  • Media is engineered specifically for MultiPhase VOC treatment.
  • Media is custom designed to each project’s VOC MACT requirements.
  • Media is surface-modified to allow accelerated attachment and growth.
  • Biofilters media has a very low bulk density and is permeable to water.
  • Biofilters media has a high biologically-active surface area.
  • Designed for good distribution on high gas flows, while using a very
low liquid flow rate for washdown and hydration.
  • Media will biodegrade terpenes and heavy VOCs without clogging due to biomass
growth or particulate build-up, meeting stringent VOC MACT requirements.
  • No media replacement is required; biofilter media bed is permanent.
  • System is pressure drop monitored. Washdown spray prevents clogging
and increased dP without interrupting operation.
  • Media is durable in terms of strength and operating temperature range.

VOC treatment occurs in the upper media bed for insoluble VOC and in the lower bioscrubber for soluble VOC. Proprietary ceramic media bed is supported over the liquid bioscrubber, insuring VOC abatement of gases escaping from the digester / bioscrubber.

VOC MACT regulations often require treatment of exhaust streams that include particle and indigestible material. These are kept suspended in the water then filtered out of the tank. Liquid spray from the tank contains bacteria and nutrients that supplies the media during low process or shut-down periods.
